The sixth grade finished off a great week of outdoor school at Camp Elkanah by hitting the pump track in La Grande for a few hours. Good stuff!

Competitive Game Ends In Walkoff As Union/Cove Varsity CU Baseball Falls To Blanchet Catholic Varsity Cavaliers

A walk-off left Union/Cove Varsity CU Baseball on the wrong end of an 8-7 defeat to Blanchet Catholic Varsity Cavaliers on Saturday at Salem. The game was tied at seven in the bottom of the seventh when Callum Harrington singled, scoring one run.
Both teams exchanged the lead back-and-forth in the game, but Blanchet Catholic Varsity Cavaliers eventually took the lead for good thanks to a single in the seventh inning.
Blanchet Catholic Varsity Cavaliers opened the scoring in the bottom of the first thanks to two doubles. Blanchet Catholic Varsity Cavaliers first got on the board when Josh Mosar doubled, scoring one run.
Union/Cove Varsity CU Baseball captured the lead, 3-2, in the top of the third when an error scored two runs, and Ledger Johnson singled, scoring one run.
Blanchet Catholic Varsity Cavaliers made the score 5-3 in the bottom of the third after an error scored one run, and Harrington singled, scoring two runs.
Union/Cove Varsity CU Baseball tied the game in the top of the fifth thanks to an error, and a wild pitch.
An error gave Blanchet Catholic Varsity Cavaliers the lead, 6-5, in the bottom of the fifth.
Blanchet Catholic Varsity Cavaliers committed an error, which helped Union/Cove Varsity CU Baseball tie the game at six in the top of the sixth.
A single by Ridge Witherspoon gave Union/Cove Varsity CU Baseball the lead, 7-6, in the top of the seventh.
Blanchet Catholic Varsity Cavaliers jumped back into the lead in the bottom of the seventh inning after Lakaios Quintero flew out, and Harrington singled to right field, each scoring one run.
Mosar earned the win for Blanchet Catholic Varsity Cavaliers. The righty surrendered three hits and four runs (zero earned) over four innings, striking out five and walking one. Jonah Jayne took the loss for Union/Cove Varsity CU Baseball. The righty went three and one-third innings, giving up three runs (one earned) on three hits, striking out four and walking none. Kash Carreiro started on the mound for Union/Cove Varsity CU Baseball. The starter surrendered five hits and five runs (two earned) over three innings, striking out none and walking none.
Brody Dickenson, Jayne, Johnson, Witherspoon, and Parker Holder each collected one hit for Union/Cove Varsity CU Baseball. Johnson and Witherspoon each drove in one run for Union/Cove Varsity CU Baseball. Jayne and Holder each stole multiple bases for Union/Cove Varsity CU Baseball. Union/Cove Varsity CU Baseball stole five bases in the game.
Harrington led Blanchet Catholic Varsity Cavaliers with three runs batted in. The catcher went 2-for-4 on the day. Mosar led Blanchet Catholic Varsity Cavaliers with three hits in four at bats. Henry Wort collected two hits for Blanchet Catholic Varsity Cavaliers in four at bats.
Next up for Union/Cove Varsity CU Baseball is a game at Grant Union on Tuesday.

Parker Holder Drives 4 Runners Home In Union/Cove Varsity CU Baseball Victory Over Mohawk Varsity Mustang's

Parker Holder drove in four runs on three hits to lead Union/Cove Varsity CU Baseball past Mohawk Varsity Mustang's 18-1 on Thursday at Springfield. Holder singled in the second scoring two, singled in the first scoring one, and singled in the fourth scoring one.
Union/Cove Varsity CU Baseball got on the board in the top of the first inning after Matt Blake singled, scoring one run, Kash Carreiro singled, scoring two runs, Brody Dickenson singled, scoring two runs, Holder singled, scoring one run, and an error scored two runs.
Union/Cove Varsity CU Baseball added to their early lead in the top of the second inning when an error scored one run, and Holder singled, scoring two runs.
Union/Cove Varsity CU Baseball scored seven runs on four hits in the top of the fourth inning. Dickenson singled, scoring one run, Holder singled, scoring one run, an error scored one run, Blake singled, scoring one run, Ridge Witherspoon was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, and Nixon Howell singled, scoring two runs.
Carreiro earned the win for Union/Cove Varsity CU Baseball. The hurler allowed one hit and one run (zero earned) over two and two-thirds innings, striking out six and walking none. Forrest Yarbrough took the loss for Mohawk Varsity Mustang's. The pitcher went five innings, giving up 18 runs (13 earned) on 13 hits, striking out five and walking three. Dickenson threw two and one-third innings of zero-run ball for Union/Cove Varsity CU Baseball in relief. The pitcher gave up one hit, striking out three and walking one.
Union/Cove Varsity CU Baseball amassed 13 hits in the game. Carter Pansevicius, Dickenson, and Blake each collected multiple hits for Union/Cove Varsity CU Baseball. Jonah Jayne stole two bases. Union/Cove Varsity CU Baseball stole five bases in the game.
Kamryn Langley led the team with one run batted in. Yarbrough and Jack Andrews each collected one hit for Mohawk Varsity Mustang's. Mohawk Varsity Mustang's turned one double play in the game.
Union/Cove Varsity CU Baseball will travel to Blanchet Catholic for their next game on Saturday.

We had an amazing day for our Cove middle school track and field team. Ryan Mentgen started us off with a new school record in Pole Vault winning the Pole Vault and breaking the record by 6 inches vaulting 9 feet 6 inches. Ryan is ranked 5th in the state in Oregon middle school all classifications 1A through 6A. Madilyn Knieriem vaulted 6 feet 6 inches breaking the school record by 3 inches and she is ranked 12th in middle school state. Ryder Waters broke the school record in the boys shot put and 5 minutes later his teammate Charlie Pettit broke it again by 4 and 3/4 inches throwing 36 feet and 5.25 inches. Ryker Johnson won both the 3000 and 1500 breaking the 6th grade record in the 1500 and just missing the 3000 6th grade record. All of the following athletes posted personal bests in one or more events: Adrian Sandoval, Carter Pedro, Chase Young, Chale Young, Charlie Pettit, Cooper Matthews, Dane Davis, Jonah Blackburn, Jorell Smith, Lium VanArsdale, Quinn Wadner, Ryan Mengen, Ryder Waters, Ryker Johnson, Tristen Shield-Marrs, Zane Larvik, Alaska Frank, Gala Schwendiman, Harper Bohanan, Kaydence Hewitt, Kaydin Dunten, Madylin Knieriem, Makenly Paxton and Rebekah McDonald. Jonah Jayne struck out 10 batters as the starter led Union/Cove Varsity CU Baseball past Pine Eagle 6-1 on Friday. Jayne surrendered one hit and one run over four and two-thirds innings while walking three.

Ridge Witherspoon pitched two and one-third innings of no-run ball for Union/Cove Varsity CU Baseball in relief. The pitcher surrendered one hit, striking out three and walking one.
Jayne led Union/Cove Varsity CU Baseball with two runs batted in. The leadoff hitter went 2-for-2 on the day. Carter Pansevicius, Jayne, and Ledger Johnson each collected two hits for Union/Cove Varsity CU Baseball. Jayne and Witherspoon each stole multiple bases for Union/Cove Varsity CU Baseball. Union/Cove Varsity CU Baseball ran wild on the base paths, tallying six stolen bases for the game.
L Harris and B Gillmore were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected one hit for Pine Eagle while hitting back-to-back. Pine Eagle turned one double play in the game.
Union/Cove Varsity CU Baseball will travel to Pine Eagle for their next game on Friday.
