Union/Cove Varsity CU Baseball Fall After Strong Showing By Irrigon

Union/Cove Varsity CU Baseball couldn't keep up with Irrigon and fell 11-3 on Friday at W Dearborn St.
A walk by Aiden Wells put Irrigon on the board in the top of the first.
Jonah Jayne homered to left field, which helped Union/Cove Varsity CU Baseball tie the game at one in the bottom of the first.
Irrigon jumped back into the lead in the top of the second inning after Colton Akers grounded into a fielder's choice, and Erik Covarrubia grounded out, each scoring one run.
Irrigon added one run in the third. Covarrubia singled to left field, making the score 4-1.
Rene Garcia homered to right field, scoring two runs in the top of the fourth for the Irrigon.
Garcia earned the win for Irrigon. The pitcher surrendered seven hits and three runs over seven innings, striking out five and walking one. Brody Dickenson pitched three and one-third innings in relief for Union/Cove Varsity CU Baseball. The righty allowed five hits and five runs (two earned) while, striking out one and walking none. Kash Carreiro took the loss for Union/Cove Varsity CU Baseball. The right-handed pitcher went one inning, surrendering two runs (one earned) on zero hits, striking out one and walking four.
Carter Pansevicius led Union/Cove Varsity CU Baseball with three hits in three at bats. Jayne and Parker Holder each drove in one run for Union/Cove Varsity CU Baseball.
Irrigon tallied nine hits in the game. Covarrubia and Bennette Atkins were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for Irrigon while hitting back-to-back. Covarrubia and Garcia each drove in two runs for Irrigon. Cody Johnson and Atkins each stole multiple bases for Irrigon. Irrigon had a strong eye at the plate, accumulating six walks for the game. Irrigon stole seven bases in the game.
Union/Cove Varsity CU Baseball will travel to Weston-McEwen/Griswold for their next game on Tuesday.

Union/Cove Varsity CU Baseball took Friday's game in dramatic fashion, with a 2-1 walk-off victory over Irrigon. The game was tied at one in the bottom of the seventh when Ridge Witherspoon singled, scoring one run.
The pitching was strong on both sides. Union/Cove Varsity CU Baseball pitchers struck out 12, while Irrigon sat down nine.
Irrigon got on the board in the third inning after Erik Covarrubia scored after tagging up.
Matt Blake singled to left field, which helped Union/Cove Varsity CU Baseball tie the game at one in the bottom of the sixth.
Jonah Jayne earned the win for Union/Cove Varsity CU Baseball. The righty surrendered three hits and one run (zero earned) over seven innings, striking out 12 and walking three. Bennette Atkins took the loss for Irrigon. The reliever went two-thirds of an inning, giving up one run on one hit, striking out one and walking two. Cody Johnson started on the hill for Irrigon. The starter allowed three hits and one run (zero earned) over six innings, striking out eight and walking one.
Blake and Witherspoon each drove in one run for Union/Cove Varsity CU Baseball. Parker Holder stole two bases. Union/Cove Varsity CU Baseball were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Kash Carreiro had the most chances in the field with seven.
Covarrubia, Johnson, and Atkins each collected one hit for Irrigon. Atkins went 1-for-3 at the plate and led the team with one run batted in.

Competitive Game Ends In Walkoff As Union/Cove Varsity CU Baseball Falls To Blanchet Catholic Varsity Cavaliers

A walk-off left Union/Cove Varsity CU Baseball on the wrong end of an 8-7 defeat to Blanchet Catholic Varsity Cavaliers on Saturday at Salem. The game was tied at seven in the bottom of the seventh when Callum Harrington singled, scoring one run.
Both teams exchanged the lead back-and-forth in the game, but Blanchet Catholic Varsity Cavaliers eventually took the lead for good thanks to a single in the seventh inning.
Blanchet Catholic Varsity Cavaliers opened the scoring in the bottom of the first thanks to two doubles. Blanchet Catholic Varsity Cavaliers first got on the board when Josh Mosar doubled, scoring one run.
Union/Cove Varsity CU Baseball captured the lead, 3-2, in the top of the third when an error scored two runs, and Ledger Johnson singled, scoring one run.
Blanchet Catholic Varsity Cavaliers made the score 5-3 in the bottom of the third after an error scored one run, and Harrington singled, scoring two runs.
Union/Cove Varsity CU Baseball tied the game in the top of the fifth thanks to an error, and a wild pitch.
An error gave Blanchet Catholic Varsity Cavaliers the lead, 6-5, in the bottom of the fifth.
Blanchet Catholic Varsity Cavaliers committed an error, which helped Union/Cove Varsity CU Baseball tie the game at six in the top of the sixth.
A single by Ridge Witherspoon gave Union/Cove Varsity CU Baseball the lead, 7-6, in the top of the seventh.

Parker Holder drove in four runs on three hits to lead Union/Cove Varsity CU Baseball past Mohawk Varsity Mustang's 18-1 on Thursday at Springfield. Holder singled in the second scoring two, singled in the first scoring one, and singled in the fourth scoring one.
Union/Cove Varsity CU Baseball got on the board in the top of the first inning after Matt Blake singled, scoring one run, Kash Carreiro singled, scoring two runs, Brody Dickenson singled, scoring two runs, Holder singled, scoring one run, and an error scored two runs.
Union/Cove Varsity CU Baseball added to their early lead in the top of the second inning when an error scored one run, and Holder singled, scoring two runs.
Union/Cove Varsity CU Baseball scored seven runs on four hits in the top of the fourth inning.
