The Cove School District monitors Air Quality Index (AQI) to provide the safest possible environment for students and staff. When air quality worsens, outdoor activities may be modified or rescheduled, and events may be canceled.
Summary
The District monitors AQI regularly, using these resources: AirNow Fire and Smoke Map and DEQ Air Quality Monitoring to make informed decisions about outdoor activities and communicate updates via the website. In areas that lack air reporting stations, the District utilizes the 5-3-1 visibility index to assess air quality, in alignment with the OSAA. Please continue to check the website for the most up-to-date information. You can view the breakdown of AQI’s from the Oregon Health Authority here.
Air Quality Categories/Standards
The OSAA requires schools to follow these standards for outdoor activities.
0-100 AQI
[Green - Healthy, Yellow Moderate]: Outdoor events can continue.
101-150 AQI
[Orange - Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups]: Modifications are considered (limit intensity, give extra breaks, or consider rescheduling to a different time and/or area)
151+ AQI
[Red - Unhealthy]: Cancellation is required for outdoor events.
If you have questions, please contact your school.
